This wouldn't be a new tax but rather rescending the tax cut that W gave to ONLY those making over that amount. The economy has already slowed and that is with the tax break in place. We had triple digit returns (yep 112%) on our investments before this administration. I fondly refer to them as the good old days.

The middle class has already been negatively affected. Everything has gone up in price but they didn't receive a tax break. Fair? I get a tax break but my poor mother doesn't? Even Warren Buffet thinks it's unfair that he pays a lower percentage of his money in taxes than his assistant does. I don't want to pay higher taxes either but what President in the past has put us in a war without paying for it with taxes?

I shouldn't get a tax break if our government has to borrow money from China to deliver it's economic stimulus to the population. If I managed my checkbook or clients retirement account like that I'd be in big trouble.

Thanks for your post but I believe that a tax hike for people making over $200,000 is nothing more than wealth redistribution and will do nothing to help the economy. Our government has been poor stewards of our tax money and giving them more of it does not solve anything. Just my opinion.

How should we come up for the money to pay for the Iraq war and occupation? Somebody has to pay for it.

Another thought. Let's make sure the troops in Iraq are represented equally among all tax brackets. That would be a novel idea.

I do agree that our government has been been a poor steward of our tax money but unfortunately it is the only system we have for providing for the common good. The private sector is not really much better.
again look at Iraq, do you think Blackwater and the other private contractors are any more efficient or less expensive than the government soldiers ? Hint- they are not and are actually quite a bit more expensive

He said he's getting us out. Some of the money saved is paying for his education plan.

I certainly agree that fiscal mismanagement in this administration has proven they have not taken care of our money. I personally hate paying taxes. I pay a much larger amount in taxes than my daughter does because I make so much more. But I do not pay the same high percentage of my income that she does. I retain a higher percentage of my money after taxes than she does. By the way she's not an underachiever or has her hand out to the government. She has her Masters degree and works harder than me. She also happens to make less money, and must pay a higher percentage if it to the IRA.

It's true those making over $200,000 pay most of the taxes that the country receives, but only because we make more money to begin with. The taxation on income should be percentage proportional. You and I pay a lower percentage of our income than most of the working middle class. Buffett's tax rate is around 18%, his employees tax rate is 33%. Like it or not that's disproportionate and it's unfair when a large group of Americans have to pay a tax rate twice as high as a millionaires.

I won't try to change your thinking about fair taxation anymore than I would try to explain it to Hannity. I won't send you to your Bible and ask you to read Matthew (Chapter 25:31-40) until it makes sense to you. Your opinion is your opinion and I value it. But as a country we have bills to pay, we pay them now or our children pay them later.

I guess we will just have to agree to respectfully disagree on this one. The article below sums up what I believe about taxes and the economy.
