Republicans want to be in charge of their own money. That is what a free market is. Like I said, I will give, but it will be my decision. Entitlements should not be considered charity--they are two entirely different things. Whatever happened to working hard for something? In my opinion, the #1 reason why Obama is so popular among college students is because he has promised so many entitlements to a group of kids who have never learned to work hard. Their parents have paid for everything and now they're looking for a government handout. That is NOT charity. Sometimes you have to do without a nice car, big house, etc., to pay for health insurance and save for college. Some people do need help and I am compassionate, but I do not support all these new entitlements. The Medicaid Drug Plans have practically bankrupt the system.

And I'm not complaining about anything. I've simply said that if the Obama's are the champions for the poor, as they portray themselves to be, they should lead by example.

You are wrong that taxes don't have an affect on the economy. The people that are hardest hit by taxes are those who own businesses and employ other people. Higher taxes slow economic growth. Unless you are a government employee (and I don't mean this personally). The government will grow and create new jobs with new programs and entitlements.[/b]

I do agree about kids today and all they are given and told how smart and wonderful they are without having to earn anything on their own (not all kids certainly, but more and more). but I do not agree that this is why college kids like Obama. the Senator is telling us all that if we truly desire fundamental change, then we are going to have to do the work on all the changes that are needed in this country - we the people are the ones who are going to have to make it happen. and he is right. hand outs? I don't think so.

I really think anti-obama folks are digging as deep as they can to find petty details to undermine his candidacy. we have moved on from the silly season in politics to the ugly season. oh well, what would one expect.

I think there are a lot of spoiled kids (and adults for that matter) who don't know the meaning of "hard work" and prioritizing, but IMO entitlements is not why college kids support Obama. Their political experience has been the nonsense of Monicagate and 2 terms of 'dumbya' Bush, and they are disillusioned and ready for change.

I think Bush/Cheney and their war mongering policies are hitting home with that group. The war is an even bigger and more present issue when it's your friends and classmates shipping out and you're draft eligible, and the economy is definitely a big deal for those entering the workforce.

Rapunzel, I?d honestly like to know what you construed as angry. You also said you disagree with me, but about what? That I find it hard to believe he?ll confront a sworn US enemy when he won?t confront his pastor and mentor? That racism should be detested equally, regardless of the color of skin of the orator? That we?ve been having open discussions about race for some time? Or that when a politician is forced to patronize to a constituency whose beliefs fall far from the mainstream, it hurts the politician when he attempts to appeal to the mainstream?

Kudos to all for not biting on this foolishness:clap:

Raising taxes is a bad idea. Raising taxes on those making over $200,000 is not only a bad idea it is inherently unfair. If more money is going to the governement it translates into less money going into savings, investment, real estate, charity, etc. The economy slows and sooner or later the middle class will be negatively affected also.

This wouldn't be a new tax but rather rescending the tax cut that W gave to ONLY those making over that amount. The economy has already slowed and that is with the tax break in place. We had triple digit returns (yep 112%) on our investments before this administration. I fondly refer to them as the good old days.

The middle class has already been negatively affected. Everything has gone up in price but they didn't receive a tax break. Fair? I get a tax break but my poor mother doesn't? Even Warren Buffet thinks it's unfair that he pays a lower percentage of his money in taxes than his assistant does. I don't want to pay higher taxes either but what President in the past has put us in a war without paying for it with taxes?

I shouldn't get a tax break if our government has to borrow money from China to deliver it's economic stimulus to the population. If I managed my checkbook or clients retirement account like that I'd be in big trouble.

Name one thing that is foolish or angry. Hell, I know this place is an echo chamber, but no one has addressed any point I made. You've all just patted yourself on the back for telling me it doesn't follow while failing to mention why. If you are going to do nothing more that call names, at least back it up with something of substance.
