Could it possibly be that some have a different point of view, see things in a different light or would just like to express their opinions? I enjoy the board and the different points of view expressed, even though I think many are not in agreement with mine. It is obvious most of the posters on this board are intelligent and well informed. In truth, some are not. Allow us who do not agree to respectively disagree. Or if you would rather, I can guarantee I also am quite capable of disagreeing disrespectively.

AA - this statement is totally true and is the entire point.

my only point is that there are always 2 or 3 people whining about the opinions given on this board (maybe more lately), whether they belong to the majority or not. why come on a message board and complain about the members and their opinions? doesn't make sense to me.

a very few members do seem to continually make a post saying the board is "leftist" (yes, they are complaining, whining, and generally unsatisified with other posters) - it does not offend me personally but it does sound offensive the way its stated usually - and it bothers me to think some friends will feel sensitive about a statement that is really not about them or their posts. such statements making such a blanket judgement say a lot about the poster and really is not reflective of other posters... and also such a statement serves to put one big label on a huge diverse crowd of members. really serving no purpose whatsover.

I for one have found it actually admirable that Obama did NOT do what most seasoned politicians would have done which is immediately pander to the chatterinng classes and disown a man who has obviously spent a lifetime doing good (and in the process has spouted off offensive and disgraceful comments). Obama vehemently critized his pastor for the comments but chose instead to focus on the good - imagine that!!!

I am sure we all say things in our lives that at some point we wish we never had (offensive, stupid, at times ugly things) and we remain grateful that our friends have stuck by us - why anyone believes politicans should be any different amazes me.

Obama's position on this issue has actually strenghtened my views of him.

Mine too. He dealt with this issue and moved confidently on to the more important issues of his campaign.

I ran across quite a few Obama supporters in Louisville this week- most in the area where we used to live, which is known for it's Christian conservative population. I was quite surprised. Clinton was in town, the newspaper covered it, the TV gave her a few minutes, but I didn't hear or see any real people "buzz" going on about her visit.

I agree that it is admirable that when he was called on it, he didn't succumb to political pressure and throw Wright under the bus. However, what is not admirable is the fact that he didn't get up and walk out a long time ago. Wright wasn't making passing, flippant comments. This was the basis and the core of his belief. That's the point everyone keeps missing. Look up "Black Theology and Black Power". I find it hard to believe that you would take the same position on someone like David Duke.

Andy A, that quote about being conservative as you age presupposes the accumulation of wealth trumps the common good. I've heard that quote too many times, and repetition does not create truth. I've gone the other direction as I've aged because what is considered "liberal" today, is far right of "liberal" twenty years ago thanks to Fox News, conservative talk radio, and the highjacking of the Republican Party by uneducated, militant, theocratic, Sunbelt-bubbas. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

With a popular vote, it's something you have to live with, given the current two party power structure. If we were like Israel, with a multitude of parties, it would be different. The Republicans pander to the snake handling bubbas, the Democrats pander to the poor and minorities. There should be more qualifications for the right to vote, and as I've repeatedly said, we should repeal the 17th Amendment, where at least one house of Congress isn't directly tied to the popular vote. Our founders had some inspired ideas, there was no need to tweak all of them.

Dissimilar situations. Look up "tyranny of the majority".

First, beyond the color of their skin, I think Sowell and Obama have virtually nothing in common and I cannot think of why his life story might speak to his credibility in commenting on Obama's candidacy. He is a lifelong conservative, a follower of Milton Friedman, and about as likely to offer an unbiased opinion of Obama as Paul Krugman is to be fair to John McCain...

I am very late to this thread but wanted to correct the above statement. Both Friedman and Sowell are Libertarians, not conservatives.
