I am not sure anyone knows how he thinks...but, from the behavior that is apparent to anyone who reads his Exec Orders or watches him speak to a group of state employees, the disrespect is pretty evident. Actions speak louder than thoughts.

Many of my friends and former colleagues have shared some rather situation specific encounters...and it is alarming to hear.

I just want him to be the governor of all the citizens of Florida; to show respect to the office he holds; to check with the Legislative body when it is appropriate to do so; and to follow the laws as they are written... and I agree with Idlewind, make sure he is on legal footing before he issues an Exec Order that not only will cost a lot of money to implement, but may result in lots more money going to the attorneys.

Can't believe you would not want the same thing.

If the facts in the article are correct it would appear the Gov. jumped before he had everything in a row. I don't want to spend tax dollars on a court battle that the state will lose. However, if state employees are not subject to random tests then local and private employees should not be subject either. I don't think anyone wants anyhting but a level playing field for all.

I don't know, the rulings tend to indicate this is acceptable in cases where public safely are a concern. Is a teacher who smokes a lot of pot a public safety issue? Probably. Is an alcoholic correctional officer a public safely issue? Probably. The truth is if public service employees aren't on drugs, this shouldn't be an issue, so it concerns me that civil service proponents are so up in arms over this. Maybe they know something we don't, but should.

One would hope that drug testing is already mandated for someone in a safety related job and can be done with cause for any other employee.

I know friends who are mechanics for city buses in other states have VERY strict rules that include alcohol use off duty but on call as well.

Apparently the state already has a drug testing policy in place, this ruling expands it I guess.

Why does it need to be expanded is my question. :dunno:

Honestly I'm not entirely sure. He made a statement about applying this to welfare recipients and said that if we expect it of them we should also expect of government employees. His motivation is a little foggy afaict.

I could give a sheet if welfare people can pass a drug test.

Far better things to be spending money/resources on - LIKE GETTING THEM OFF WELFARE!

A lot of welfare recipients have drug problems. That translates into higher costs for us and less of a chance they'll get back on thier own two feet. So I think it's completely reasonable for the state to test for addiction and use that information to get them the right treatment.

(If they were paying for their own healthcare, it'd be none of our business.)
