The wonderful spring weather has coincided perfectly with the "big" spring break week here at the beach. Warm temps, calm seas and LOTS of folks in town mean I get to run trips everyday.
Spring Break has lots of younger anglers - I try to get 'em all to catch fish, even if it takes a little help from a rod holder.
It's officially spring here in South Walton. Lot's of warm days, sunshine and yes, it's windy!
There haven't been many calm days to get offshore, so several of us charter captains and a couple recreational fishermen went to the "Fishing Matters to Me" Rally in St. Pete last weekend to protest the National Marine Fisheries' and NOAA's agenda to make fishing illegal for all but a select few.
The SoWal weather the past week has just been incredible! Calm seas, Blue water and highs in the mid 70's make for a perfect time to be at the beach.
When we came in from fishing yesterday afternoon there were bikinis on the beach, paddling around on SUP boards and folks surfing without wetsuits. Welcome to an early spring after an early (and hard) winter!
Wow ! Somebody threw the season switch to Spring! Looks like over a week's worth of high skies, warm days and light winds.
I even saw a couple boats bass fishing on the dune lakes today! The last half of February is always a good time to find those ten-pound-plus "green groupers" looking for a place to bed.
While a lot of folks spent last Sunday getting the party ready for a super bowl game I got to take some locals out and we partied with the Amberjacks.
A beautiful clear sky, calm seas and a light but cool North wind made for the perfect day to run offshore.
The fish were happy to cooperate and everyone (including the captain!) got to catch some big fish. A big Jack can dang sure pull!
Sorry for the lapse in fishin' reports but this weather we've been having has not been conducive to fun on the water !
While I have mainly been working on tackle and rebuilding the running gear on the cat's trailer I did have a father / daughter team at Indian Pass last week.
What a cold windy start to the New Year. Snow in every State but Florida and plenty of nights below freezing here.
Add the inconsistent Federal (anti) fishing laws and it's a wonder that we can still go out and have this much fun!
The past weekend was cool but beautiful here in South Walton.
The beach here in Northwest Florida had its usual population increase for the week between Christmas and New Year's. Lots of folks in town and a bunch of 'em wanted to go fishin'.
The weather however did its winter thing and only gave us two nice calm days to run out and chase the finny critters.

I have spent most of the past 2 weeks working on the boat. The "Dead Fish" has two brand new 70 horsepower Yamaha 4 strokes, new hydraulic steering rams, some new fiberglass and the interior all has shiny new gelcoat.
I know, it's been two weeks since I wrote a report but I can plead "busy during the holidays".
I got to run three trips from Grayton Beach over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I had a couple more booked but the weather didn't let us go everyday. Once it cools down I try to avoid rough. It just doesn't go well with cold!
