Great American Picnic at WaterSound Origins June 8

May 27, 2014 by SoWal Staff

Watersound Origins will host the Great American Picnic on June 8 from 4 - 8 p.m. You and your family can enjoy a day of fun at Wind Garden Park complete with good tunes, delicious eats, kid-friendly activities, and a fireworks show. And it's all for a good cause.

Classic picnic fare will be available for purchase with a portion of proceeds benefiting Food for Thought Outreach and Alaqua Animal Refuge. Enjoy BBQ, snacks, and ice cream, and grab a cold beer or stop by the Food for Thought Lemonade Stand to quench your thirst. Menu items from Origins Cafe, Watersound Origins' newest restaurant, will also be available for sampling. You're welcome to bring your own picnic favorites as well.

Chill out on your favorite blankets and chairs as The Forrest Williams Band entertains with live music on the lawn in Wind Garden Park. The kiddos will love running relay races, getting their faces painted, playing Bocce ball, and making their very own kites. Kids and kids-at-heart will have a blast sharing pics from the Facetime Photo Booth.

Take part in more picnic fun by participating in the Watersound Scavenger Hunt. Simply pick up a Scavenger Hunt card at Wind Garden Park and get your card punched at featured locations to win prizes like a YOLO Board, YOLO bike, dinner at Fish Out of Water, and more! Then settle in for a fireworks show at dusk accompanied by music.

Food for Thought Outreach provides backpacks filled with easy to make meals so children can focus on their development and education, not where the next meal is coming from. By providing weekly support to children who may not otherwise have enough to eat, Food for Thought Outreach helps support their physical, mental, and emotional development with the help of wonderful members of our community.

Alaqua Animal Refuge advocates the general welfare and humane treatment of animals by providing shelter, prevention of pet overpopulation, and adoption services at their facility in Freeport. Since 2007 the no-kill shelter has rescued over 10,000 animals. Visit the Alaqua Animal Refuge Booth during the Great American Picnic to learn about adoption and visit with pets.

The Watersound Origins community offers a relaxed setting amid the natural beauty of Lake Powell and towering pines with the convenience of quaint shops, lively eateries, and local activities near famed Scenic Highway 30A. Influenced by maritime architecture of years past, Watersound Origins' architectural design re-imagines and modernizes the coastal shingle home into a vernacular building style that is distinctly Florida.
