Thanks! the control burn smoke was thick..... we had a discussion in class before we went to the reenactment and talked about how, when the war was going on...it might have smelled and looked a lot like that....burning houses...trees....towns...so sad. the kids really responded to the whole thing...you cannot beat experiential education.

What a great time. We took the in-laws for the skirmish then mosied back here to Tara for some lasagna and homemade bread. I think the rebs won today.

Funny you mentioned that since during the Civil War many people would take picnic blankets and watch battles for entertainment.

Yes! It was a popular thing to do, not just some weirdos. At the First Bull Run, the retreating army was slowed by picnickers fleeing - among them congressmen and their families who had come to watch the easy victory. :roll:
