The billing service for SWFD, the ambulance in this case, told me that none of the ambulance services in Florida have signed provider contracts with BCBS because the reimbursements are too low. So they are all "out of network." Check your policy to see what your out of network deductible and copays are.
In my case it was not an injury - Sacred Heart shipped me up there because they could not diagnose me here, they didn't have the necessary specialist.

As in a private vehicle without any medical staff, etc. What could possibly go wrong on that trip?!
WTF! Even an ambulance ride from my house to my closest local hospital is not covered?
I'm starting to think I should just ditch the insurance and declare bankruptcy if I ever get seriously injured. It doesn't pay for ANYTHING!

Yeah I was sick enough for it. All told, I was in 3 hospitals, 3 ambulances, a helicopter and a jet in a 24 hour period. I'm not complaining per say. My insurance did cover over $400,000 including the jet to Birmingham.
And there are plenty of folks who just don't pay, family members won't even pick their elderly family members because I suppose it might be inconvient.
