I think there were allot of agendas Mark Davis pushed because it was his job to do the BCC's bidding, not necessarily because he agreed with them.

I for one, am very thankful he resigned. Restores my faith in the man I've known for many years and unlike most of his predecessors, he leaves with his reputation still intact.

I didn't agree with many things he did at the BCC's bidding but I always understood it was his job to do it.

The BCC's actions have become indefensible and I believe Mark saw the handwriting on the wall.

I have a different perspective on this as both the Tallahassee attorney the board hired and Davis knew (it would be impossible not to) that the court case they used to justify customary use required a case by case determination --- it could not be used in the blanket fashion it was. The fact that they cherry picked that case shows their bias.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Martin Luther King Jr.

I am once again proud to call Mark Davis a friend, my former attorney and man of principal. I didn't always agree with Mr. Davis on issues that came before the BCC that he ruled on as council for the County Commissioners but I always understood it was his job to do what the BCC instructed. In fact the most heated argument I ever had with him was over a $300.00 bill the county did not owe, that a BCC member submitted payment for, knowing it was not taxpayer connected.

I struggled with my admiration and respect for him when I wrote the Fl. Bar because I believed what transpired over that bill was highly unethical. The good news is, the bill has not come before the board again for payment (yet) and it's my hope that it has been laid to rest and that the BCC member paid her own attorney fees. Time will tell.

I was however, happy to hear of Mark's resignation as the County attorney. Many times over the course of his tenure I asked myself why he took the position to start with knowing the counties track record and how short lived his predecessors tenures have been with most leaving the county under less than admirable circumstances. I convinced myself it was because he believed he could set this County on a path to open, honest government, operated in the Sunshine, all the while recognizing he had a couple of formidable opponents who would balk at every move he made.

I respected the very long hours he dedicated trying to right the wrongs of the past, often sacrificing time with his own family to be at the counties beck and call.

Most of all, I'm thankful that Mark's leaving isn't tainted by scandal like his predecessors were and his reputation and moral character is also still intact.

When you can't defend the indefensible actions of the BCC maybe it is time to take your knowledge, experience and credentials and move on to better, greener pastures!

Wishing you much success at the new law firm Mark and I truly hope you get back to being the wonderful, light hearted, honest, ethical man I have always known you to be.
