In our area, we are fortunate to have two premier beach destinations that merge almost seamlessly together. While they are neighbors, each offers a unique experience. The remarkable communities of which we speak are, of course, South Walton and Destin.
South Walton is comprised of a varied collection of “towns” that nestle predominantly along Scenic Highway 30A. Each offers their own interpretation of a life well lived by the beach.

As is true with any location fortunate enough to be by a large body of water – the beach is by far the number one reason eager travelers head to our corner of paradise.
Granted, South Walton is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country – or the world for that matter – but the most precious souvenir any departing guest ventures home with is not sandy feet or a sun-kissed tan. Explorers who arrive seeking fun in the sun find this in abundance, but perhaps the most valuable keepsake of all found on our shores is inspiration.

A record crowd of more than 2,000 gumbo lovers turned out on a cool but sunny Florida day for the 24th annual Sandesatin Gumbo Festival at the Village of Baytowne Wharf. Eighteen teams competed for prizes in several categories.
The Waylon Thibodeaux Band played zydeco music while the crowd kicked up their heels and relaxed on the lawn.

A loving and quick look back at last month's 30A Songwriters Festival.
The 2013 30A Songwriters Festival was held on a perfect SoWal weekend. Sunny skies and mid-seventies greeted songwriters and fans on Sunday. Indoor and outdoor venues up and down Scenic 30A were filled with music lovers and writers who perform their own music, and performers who write their own songs.
The SoWal.com staff was out in full force capturing images, notes, and memories of a wonderful music-filled weekend.

One of our favorite local bands was the talk of the 30A Songwriters Festival recently. In this video, The Owsley Brothers play "200 Miles" on the Caliza stage in Alys Beach.
Hailing from the Gulf Coast of Florida The Owsley Brothers Began as the Bedroom Recording project of multi-instrumentalist J.E. Reynolds. Armed with a cheap guitar, half a drum kit and an 8-track recorder, Reynolds crafted Last Years Acclaimed EP Pure Lust.
