Walk For A Cause At 6th Annual Hops For Hounds Jan 18

January 8, 2026 by SoWal Staff

If your four-legged best friend resolved to spend more time outdoors this year, we have the perfect way to help them keep it.

On Sunday, January 18, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Dog-Harmony hosts its Sixth Annual Hops for Hounds. It’s a chance to grab the leash, get some fresh air, and support a cause that keeps our local pet community thriving.

Presented by Emerald Coast Hospice Care, the event returns to Props Brewery in Hammock Bay for a scenic one-mile stroll through the wooded paths of Freeport.

"We encourage all dog-loving families in our area to walk for a cause," says Nancy Bown, founder of Dog-Harmony. "Props Brewery provides a great, family-friendly space to socialize after a fun stroll with our four-legged friends."

The party doesn't stop at the finish line. The after-party at Props features live music, craft beer, food trucks, and a silent auction. You can even snag a digital photo of your pup to commemorate the day. Tickets are $30 in advance (or $35 at the gate) and include entry for one human and one dog, plus a complimentary craft beer for walkers over 21. You can register early here to try and secure a commemorative event t-shirt.

This isn't just about the walk; it's about the work Dog-Harmony does year-round. In 2025 alone, the organization provided humane education to over 4,600 children and clocked nearly 1,700 hours of therapy dog visits in local hospitals and schools. Proceeds from the walk fuel these vital programs, ensuring that people and pups in Walton County stay together.

Grab your sneakers and your favorite canine companion—we’ll see you in Hammock Bay for a "pawsome" afternoon.
