The Merchants of Seaside New Year’s Eve Family Celebration

December 27, 2014 by SoWal Staff

The Merchants of Seaside have planned a fantastic, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration in the twinkling town of Seaside. On Dec. 31, the 5th Annual Countdown will welcome in 2015 with live entertainment, kid's art projects, street performers and fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and last until the last firework lights up the sky.

For kids of all ages, Abrakadoodle will be on hand from 7 to 11 p.m. offering unique art projects as part of the New Year’s Eve celebration. There is no cost to participate in the projects, which include making noisemakers, as well as celebratory New Year’s hats. Families can enjoy face painters, balloon sculptors, stilt walkers and street magicians to foster both the young and young-at-heart festive spirit all under thousands of Seaside’s holiday lights.

Spectators will be entertained under the stars in the final hours of 2014 by The Dirty Guv’nahs - a six-piece brotherhood from Knoxville, called “a fiercely soulful band” by The Boston Globe, and affirmed by Paste Magazine to “know rock and roll from the inside out.” The Guvs will be joined by Nashville group MamaDear, no strangers to Seaside, as the opening act celebration kicks off at 8 p.m.

At the stroke of midnight, Seaside will then light up the skies over the Gulf of Mexico and welcome the first minutes of 2015 with its exciting fireworks display from a barge in front of Bud & Alley's - a Seaside tradition. Colorful bursts of light will be visible from the beach, as well as in the Seaside Amphitheater in Central Square. A synchronized music soundtrack will be simulcast in the Amphitheater.

Acclaimed world-wide as one of the iconic examples of New Urbanism, Seaside offers a thriving town center with shopping and dining, all within walkable distance to homes, cottages and offices. Seaside was recently named the “Best Beach on Earth” for families by Travel + Leisure magazine and included in USA Today's "Top 10 Best Beach Towns in Florida (2013) by “Dr. Beach.” The town was also the primary filming location of the classic movie “The Truman Show.” For more information, visit www.seasidefl.com or call (850) 231-6179.
