St. Joe Foundation Provides Grant for Robotics Academy at Emerald Coast Middle School

July 1, 2014 by SoWal Staff

The St. Joe Community Foundation (Foundation) has provided a $8,742.00 grant to Emerald Coast Middle School in Walton County to sponsor its first year in providing a new Robotics Academy to its students in the 2014 – 2015 school year. Research suggests that Robotics is very effective in improving Math, Science, Technology, and Reading skills.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for our school. As educators in the 21st century, we continually search for vehicles to teach thinking, logic, questioning and prediction that are age appropriate for our students” said Leigh Glenn, Teacher at Emerald Coast Middle School. Ms. Glenn will be facilitator of the brand new elective class of Robotics funded by this grant.

“The Foundation’s support of the new Robotics Academy will assist in providing an additional educational and motivational class for all students attending Emerald Coast Middle School” said Janet Greeno, Executive Director for the Foundation. “One of the Foundation’s goals is increasing our educational reach in the community and this grant provides the opportunity for our younger teens to be involved in a fun, creative environment while still learning.”

Since its inception, The St. Joe Community Foundation (STJCF) has provided more than $18 million in grants to improve the quality of life in the communities it serves. STJCF provides charitable grants primarily in Bay and Walton Counties that embrace the arts, strengthen education, protect the environment and improve healthcare. These efforts help build healthy, caring, long-lived communities. For more information, visit www.stjcf.com.
