Resurrecting van Gogh at Seaside Repertory Theatre May 2
April 6, 2014 by Teresa Lischka
Emerald Coast Theatre Company will perform Resurrecting van Gogh at Seaside Meeting Hall Theater on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Event proceeds will benefit the Arts in Medicine program at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
Created and performed by Jason Hedden, this show is based on the life, work and writings of the late Andy Martin. Martin was a medical student and oncology patient at Tulane University where he conducted groundbreaking research on sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC), the extremely rare form of cancer that eventually took his life.
Under the supervision of Dr. Tyler Curiel, Andy was able to grow his own cancer cells in the lab and establish a permanent cell line to allow important research to continue. He and others founded Bounce for Life to raise funds to support his research. Martin was a Harvard alumnus, an avid rock climber, published author, jewelry designer, and self taught wine connoisseur.
The one-man show is directed by Nathanael Fisher with Emerald Coast Theatre Company. The majority of the performance text is taken from Andy’s unpublished private journals and this project would not have been possible without the overwhelming trust and support of Martin’s family.
The event will include the theatrical presentation followed by a documentary and interactive discussion session. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. The performance will take place at The Seaside REP Meeting Hall Theatre at 216 Quincy Circle, Seaside, FL. Types of activities can include visual, musical, theatrical, movement, and written arts. The goal of the program is to enhance patients’ health care experience, provide respite and rejuvenation to staff, and promote community wellness.
