MKAF Presents The Fabulous Fifties Arts Camp for Kids

July 1, 2015 by SoWal Staff

This July, All Kinds of Art, an educational outreach program of the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, presents Kamp Kellywamba, a visual and performing arts summer camp offering  theatre, art, dance, and set design classes for youth. This year’s camp features a fun and festive 1950’s theme.

For the first time, Kamp Kellywamba will be conveniently offered at two locations, both Destin Middle School and Northwest Florida State College – Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs. This unique and engaging camp allows kids to explore different modes of expression while rotating through various arts classes. The last day of camp showcases the students’ creative efforts, including the theatre production “One Magic Moment.”

All Kinds of Art champions the arts as a resource to unlock the creative development and improve the self-esteem of children. To witness these students “light up” as they create art and perform theatre and dance is a very rewarding experience.

Kamp Kellywamba: The Fabulous Fifties takes place July 13-17 (Destin), and  July 27-31 (DeFuniak Springs), and costs $125 per student ($100 for a second sibling). Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation members receive a 10% discount. Students entering grades 1-8 in the fall of 2015 are eligible. Registration is through the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, at www.mattiekellyartsfoundation.org, or call Melanie Moore at (850)650-2226. The camp is limited to the first 50 registered students.

All Kinds of Art has impacted over 268,000 students in over 57 schools in Okaloosa and Walton Counties through cultural education programs where art curriculum is limited. Become a “Friend of AKA” today to support future cultural programs by contacting the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation at (850) 650-2226 or donating directly online at www.mattiekellyartsfoundation.org.

The mission of the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) is to be the leading art advocate of cultural arts and student educational outreach serving Okaloosa and Walton Counties in Northwest Florida.

Since 1995, MKAF has been committed to cultivating and nurturing a deep appreciation of the arts in residents and visitors along the breathtaking Emerald Coast. Named in honor of Destin matriarch and benefactor, Mattie Kelly, MKAF has grown over the past 18 years to include community outreach and children’s educational art programs, along with an extensive calendar of concerts, performances and other events celebrating a wide variety of artistic pursuits.
