Marie's Bistro Caters to Fun in Blue Mountain Beach
November 11, 2015 by Audrey Johnson
Marie’s Bistro is a very popular spot for dining and fun in SoWal. We like to belly up to the bar for happy hour. We've been known to stay at the bar well past happy hour until some serious karaoke kicks in. And it is the best thing ever.
Lunch at Marie’s is super casual and laid back. But during happy hour and karaoke, our Blue Mountain Beach gem really comes to life. Actors from The Rep frequent karaoke night and they know how to work a crowd. They have us singing along to all kinds of tunes - from Bon Jovi’s Wanted (Wanted!) Dead or Alive to Midnight Train to Georgia (despite the fact that nobody sings like Gladys).
The energy at Marie’s is what makes it so special. And Owners Hanie and Marie Nasri are always cooking up some fun. Happy Hour is a blast Tuesday thru Sunday from 4-7 pm with discounted drinks, $5 appetizers, $7 entrees, and $5 desserts for good measure. And Marie’s much-loved sushi goes ½ price from 4-6 pm.
Ladies night aka "Women’s Wednesdays" are from 4-6 pm every week, and ladies get their first drink free. And if you hang out a while, Karaoke kicks off at 7 pm. Karaoke goes down Saturday night too, for one of the best parties in SoWal.
Steve, the owner of the karaoke service, is the man. He comes armed with a great song list, and much like Hanie and Marie, his aim is to make sure you have a great time. So even if you’re like me, a member of the secret society of people who DGAF about The Beatles, it’s still fun to belt out the lyrics to Hey Jude with the rest of the imbibed.
Marie’s showcases a rotating lineup of local musicians on Fridays. (Your best bet is to check out Marie’s Events tab on Facebook for start times, since they vary.) On a regular basis, Matt and Aly play Thursdays at 6 pm, and they also close out the weekend during Sunday Brunch from 10 am-2 pm.
Marie’s caters business lunches, events, weddings, and more, with a menu that is diverse and beautifully presented. Suggested menus for breakfast, brunch, lunch, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert are provided, and custom menus are available, too. Marie’s coordinates pick up, delivery and setup, and they can even host events in the restaurant.
Hanie was trained as a chef in Paris, Egypt, and New York, mastering the art of Mediterranean cuisines. The menu at Marie’s is an ode to his diverse background, and you can get everything from spaghetti and meatballs to grouper and sushi. “The thing is, we try to be very versatile,” says Hanie.
Some new and notable items have been added to the menu, and, as always, Hanie and Marie have a daily blackboard special. The Black Angus Caesar Wrap revives a classic with charbroiled Black Angus and crunchy greens wrapped in a spinach tortilla. And the slightly modified Rainbow Roll comes with cream cheese, salmon and a rainbow top, drizzled with a spicy wasabi sauce. “Some people call it yum yum sauce,” says Hanie.
Tempura fried shrimp coated with a light batter keeps the fruit of the sea moist and juicy, and it’s served with homemade Asian slaw and cocktail sauce. “We don’t have a heat lamp in the kitchen. Everything is cook and serve,” says Hanie.
And look out for the $5 Drive Thru lunch special on Tuesdays-Saturdays, where you can pick up a burger on Tuesday, a quiche on Saturday, and everything else in between. Marie’s has the only drive thru on Scenic 30A…and its way, way better than any fast food you’ll pick up, well, anywhere. (Call ahead to order at 850-278-6856.)
Hanie and Marie are two of the sweetest people you’ll meet in SoWal. And they create an atmosphere that is welcoming and homey, with an air of hospitality that makes you comfortable and happy.
