Eggs on the Beach Competition in Miramar Beach Sep 29

August 31, 2018 by SoWal Staff

Eggs on the Beach Cooking Competition, taking place at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach on Sept. 29, has partnered with the World Food Championships. The Judge's First Place Winner will receive a golden ticket to compete in the World Barbecue Championship with a waived entry fee and a chance to win $10,000. The BBQ category winner will then face the other nine category winners at the Final Table for the grand prize of $100,000 in cash and prizes. In addition, the first and second place People's Choice Winners will be invited to compete this year in the World Barbecue Championship. The entry fee is $300.

“The Ultimate Food Fight is bringing the beach to pit row at its main event in November with the launch of its brand-new attraction, “BBQ Beach!”, said Mike McCloud, CEO/President of WFC. “This means that grilling enthusiasts will get the chance to see some of the hottest smokers and ceramic grills on the market in action, while sampling mouth-watering barbecue. WFC’s newest experience will also feature pit masters and Celebrity Chefs sharing BBQ tips and fun beach games for the entire family to enjoy.”

The World Food Championships (WFC) is the largest Food Sporting event in the world, where grand champions of previous events convene for a chance at winning a share of hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money. Since 2013, WFC has created major new attractions for foodies every year to complement its main event. These additions have helped transform the world’s largest outdoor kitchen into a major food fest as well. Nowhere else can foodies catch award-winning chefs, home cooks and pro-teams battle it out for TV fame, while also enjoying attractions like a six-ton Idaho Potato and a mobile “transformer” kitchen called Maximus, as well as sampling extravaganzas like the Walmart Tasting Pavilion.

In 2018, the games will get even bigger, as WFC and its sponsors are trucking in 10 loads of beautiful white sand to create a true beach area full of food-centric, family fun activities. BBQ Beach will make its debut at The Wharf, the host site for WFC since 2016. At the Eggs on the Beach Cooking Competition, a group of honorary judges will select the Judge’s Award winners while EggFest attendees will vote for best “Tasters Choice” winners. The top winners in both these categories will be invited to compete at the World Food Championships in November.

In addition to competing for a chance to be named the Grand Prize winner, cook teams will be smoking and grilling for great cause. All proceeds from Eggs on the Beach benefits two local charities—The Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food for Thought. Located on Eglin Air Force Base, the Fisher House provides a "home away from home" for military families ensuring family members can be together during treatment for serious illness or physical/occupational therapy.

Food For Thought aims to end food insecurity by serving students in Okaloosa and Walton County with backpacks filled with healthy meals and snacks for nights and weekends. In 2017, Eggs on the Beach raised $29,000 for Fisher House and Food For Thought and another $6,000 was donated to non-profit organizations through the non-profit cook team category. And over the past four years, Eggs on the Beach has raised nearly $100,000 for local charities. For those who are interested in owning a Big Green Egg, the Demo Eggs that are used during the event will be sold in advance with nest (metal stand) and plate setter for a discounted price.

Both Large and XL Eggs will be sold and all come with a limited lifetime warranty. Demo Eggs must be picked up after the event, between 4 – 5 p.m. on September 29. Backyard cooks, restaurants, local businesses and non-profit organizations are all eligible to enter a cook team. Cook team registration is $50 for a team of six and each team member will receive a welcome bag, including a commemorative t-shirt and Wayne's Get Grillin' Rubs. Non-profit cook team registration fees are waived and non-profit teams compete for a cash donation toward their cause.

Taster tickets are also on sale now with special advance pricing of $32.50/adult, $14/child (age 11-17) and kids 10 and under are free. Sponsorships are also available. To learn more or to register a cook team or purchase a taster ticket, visit www.EggsontheBeach.com or visit Bay Breeze Patio at 32 Forest Shore Drive, Miramar Beach. The 7th Annual WFC, presented by Walmart, will be held Nov 7-11 at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. BBQ Beach will be open to the public November 9-11 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM and is included in the $10 gate admission. To learn more about the event, visit www.worldfoodchampionships.com/tickets.

An EggFest is a gathering of people who love the Big Green Egg. The Big Green Egg is an all-in-one smoker and grill, and those who have tried it know that everything tastes better on the Egg. Foods are so delicious that the Big Green Egg now has a loyal following of chefs and admirers (also known as "EggHeads") who specialize in cooking great-tasting food using only these grills. EggHeads travel from all over the country to cook and compete for best tasting dish.

Presented by Bay Breeze Patio, Eggs on the Beach will be held at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach, just east of Destin, Florida. The EggFest will be be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be complemented by the scenic coastal setting, resort amenities, live music and more.

There are two groups who attend EggFest: Cooks and Tasters. Cooks bring their own food and cook a variety of dishes on a Big Green Egg, which is provided for each cooking team. Tasters come to taste the delectable dishes and vote on their favorites.
