yet another noob

Hello all.
I am Cil from landlocked Denver, Colorado. Denver is great but I grew up on both coasts and desperately miss the ocean.
Spouse and I visited South Walton in summer of 2003.
We flew into Pensacola, based ourselves in Grayton (Zack's Shack) and drove around; we made as far as Appalachicola.
We fell in love with the area; husband interviewed and dropped resumes here and there (he is a planner and landscape architect) but nothing came to fruition.
Now our younger son is well-settled in high school so even if a wonderful job did come about, we would have second thoughts about tearing him away.
So I guess I wanted to join your online community and dream a bit.

I'm in Tennessee so know how you feel about wishing you were there. We're trying to work it out to move before our kids start high school or we will have the same problem. (Actually, my son wants to move to Boulder?!)

Thanks for the welcome, guys!
We got a dusting of snow right before Christmas but now it is melting.
Usually the big snowstorms happen up in the mountains, but we do have our occasional blizzards.
It's just so arid here that sometimes I feel as if I am going to dry up and blow away; I am one of those weirdos who loves humidity.
GraytonBound, is your son interested in going to school at CU, or is he just interested in Boulder? Around here we call it the Peoples' Republic of Boulder. That title is more about state of mind than actual cost of living; Boulder is not cheap but it does seem to attract many.

Actually, he doesn't know a thing about CU & he's never been to Boulder. He just loves cold weather & in his 9 yr old mind he's gonna be a great snowboarder His dad told him it's supposed to be one of the best cities in America, so now he's ready to go. We have pretend arguments about moving to Grayton vs. Boulder. It's freezing in Nooga today so I told him I'm packing for Florida!!

Do much skiing Cil? I went to Utah this past Easter and had the best ever skiing trip. Haven't been to the CO ski country in 9 or 10 years Hope to get back soon. 8)

It was pretty warm in Denver today: 56.
Otter I haven't skied in years. I am too uncoordinated and skiing is too expensive to be wasted on me. Plus I hate the cold! I have enjoyed snowshoeing though, a lot of aging Boomers like me are beginning to snowshoe. If you dress warmly and keep moving, it is inexpensive good exercise.
Both our boys (15 and 21) snowboard and love it, but again, it is not cheap.
I love love love swimming. I was trying to persuade our younger son that he could go surfing at So Walton, but he wasn't going for it.
I think if we ever get to move, it will have to be when he goes off to college.
We will have our house here paid off in three years. <still dreaming>

Bout the same in the Nooga today. Hope to get out your way and introduct the little Otters to snowboarding. (I'll be on skis... don't want to go through the 2-3 day learning curve). Hope so see ya in Grayton area this coming year. Keep posting. 8)
