The Emerald Coast Meditation Society will present a series of meditation trainings conducted by Pat Carlyle. The trainings will take place the first Thursday of each month from September 2017 through June 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, Santa Rosa Beach, one-half mile north of Hwy 98.

The series is for curious beginners as well as life time practitioners. Everyone who meditates hits high and low points along the path to enjoying the fruits of the practice. Together, we’ll focus on the myriad aspects of a mindfulness practice and the daily application of awareness in our lives.

A community of practitioners such as ours, sometimes called a sangha, can enhance the quality of and commitment to your practice. Whether a beginner or a dedicated meditator, you will take your practice to a different level in this series. The format for each session is a short welcoming meditation, a talk on a particular meditation subject, a 20-30 minute group meditation and time for discussion and Q&A.

The first meeting of the series will be held Thursday September 7. The topic is “What is Meditation?” We will explore the basic types of meditation and the purposes of each. In addition, we’ll discuss the benefits of meditation and the “skillful means” to begin and sustain a meditation practice.

All trainings in the series are free, however, donations will be accepted with gratitude for Christ the King for making a meeting space available for our program. The ECMS is ecumenical and does not follow any religion.

Pat Carlyle began her meditation practice in 1972. She has studied with Eckhart Tolle, Pema Chodron, Jeff Foster, Thich Nhat Hanh, and is a practitioner of the Work of Byron Katie. She is currently studying with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach in a two year program for meditation teachers from all over the world. She holds a M.Ed from Temple University in Pyschoeducational Processes and has taught at the corporate and university level.
