WCSO Encourages Halloween Safety

Walton County Sheriff?s Office (WCSO) members will be on Baldwin Avenue in Downtown DeFuniak Springs, Fla. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and at the Freeport Middle School football field from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to give away candy and to encourage Halloween safety.
The WCSO helicopter and boat will be on display along with a variety of Halloween activities at Freeport Middle School. A WCSO safety booth will be stationed downtown where families can receive candy and safety information. McGruff the Crime Dog will also make an appearance at both locations.
The WCSO encourages citizens to review the following Halloween safety tips:
- Children should be careful as they cross streets
- Children should never go into a strangers house unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
- Costumes should be made of flame-resistant materialand children should wear reflective tape so they will be more visible at night
- Motorists should pay extra attention, drive below the speed limit and refrain from using cell phones while driving
- If there are situations that require the attention of law enforcement, citizens are encouraged to dial 911 or contact the Walton County Sheriff?s Office at 850.892.8186
The WCSO encourage families to visit www.flsexoffender.net to subscribe to receive e-mail alert notifications when registered sexual offenders or predators move into neighborhoods. WCSO also encourages citizens to use the Neighborhood Search feature prior to signing up for alerts to identify registered sexual offenders and predators currently living in neighborhoods where their children will be trick or treating or congregating.
