That trip to the Bahamas is getting closer this November.

Vision Airlines will begin service to Grand Bahama International Airport on Nov. 14. While the airline will not offer direct service from Northwest Florida Regional Airport, locals can fly to Fort Lauderdale and on to the Bahamas without changing planes.

“It’s an incredible island, the Grand Bahama Island,” said Clay Meek, director of sales for Vision Airlines. “They’ve had service in the past and done real well with it and the government of the Bahamas approached us on wanting to bring in air service from these four different cities.

Interesting to see the little start-up airline go international before SWA has.

It's less expensive for a small airline with only a handful of pilots to fly internationally. There is training involved. SWA would either have to train all their pilots or establish a group of internationally trained ones like the majors.

Should be interesting to see what happens when the buy out of AirTran is complete. AirTran does fly internationally.

Vision's apparently been doing international charters for a while. I think Vision's current business plan is a mix of 'throw a bunch of stuff against the wall, and see what sticks' and 'figure out a way to get bought out by Allegiant Air'.
