How many of you out there have recieved a call from a representative confirming they have had homes (in your area) infested with termites?
I recieved another call today, each one from someone different, and finally had to make her take my name off the list.

When you ask the representative where or what area they can't answer the question.

Solicitation drives me crazy!!!!!

I just wonder if there is any truth to what they're telling people?

Hey Joho, That is a marketing ploy that some Pest Control Companies use. Their sales people have quotas that must be met. This is why we don't have sales people. It can lead to some very fear based sales tactics. I opologize. This is the kind of ploy that can give our industry a bad name and make us look like bafoons, which we are not. Good service should sell itself!!!!

I agree native........After questioning a sales person I realized something didn't sound correct. Can they get away with telling residents there has been a termite out break in their area?

A couple of years ago Sears had some people come through my neighborhood carrying a termite eaten-up stick. Their pitch was they found that piece of wood in the lot beside your house. (I don't have a lot, I have two houses).

I marched out on the porch dragging him by the are down the driveway demanding to know exactly where he picked up the stick because I wanted to see for myself.

When he pulled away from me, he quickly went toward his truck. I saw him throwing the stick in the back of his truck!!

It is amazing what salespeople in any industry get away with. But rest assured that termites in your yard doesn't mean you have them in the house. But on the other hand no termites in your yard doesn't mean they aren't in your house. We recommend that every house have a barrier treatment done. Termites are prevelant all over Florida. I just think it is tacky to scare people in order to sell them on your service.

Native, obviously you are in the pest control business. Would it be to much to ask the name of your company?

I have had the outside of my house and 10 feet of the surrounding ground treated quarterly and have had no problems even with normal pest in the house. I have never had the interior of the house treated.

Seems to be working well. Been doing it for 14 years.

What is your opinion about this?

Hey Yippie, I bet you are one of my customers. Buzz Woodham Pest Mgmt, in business in Walton County for 22years, after an additional 7 years of training. You have quarterly service for pest control. This does keep the "bugs" out. But Termite Control is a totally seperate issue, with the product,method and area of application being different.

Remember that good service should sell itself. Word of mouth is always the best advertising.

Buzz, I know you and you know me, but unfortunately I am not one of your customers. I have had the same service for 14 years and am very happy, however, I have recommended several people your way and won't hesitate to continue to send them to you.
