
The Cultural Arts Association of Walton County announces that 2004 Artist of the Year Susan Lucas will lead a beginning acrylic series of workshops that will take place at Bayou Arts Center located at 105 Hogtown Bayou Lane in Santa Rosa Beach.
On Monday, February 9, students will provide students with beginning education on how to select, use and hold brushes, how to fill a paper with different brushstrokes, the various types of painting surfaces, how to choose and purchase supplies, and how to create a basic painting.
On Wednesday, February 11, Lucas will teach the basics of acrylics, including creating a color wheel, mixing complementary colors, mixing on a palette, creating depth and painting a still life.
The final class on Friday, February 13 will offer students a chance to paint with non-traditional tools like plastic wrap and kitchen utensils, find subject matter in abstract beginnings, practice conceptual paintings, and learn pouring and splattering.
The cost is $65 for CAA members and $75 for non-members per day. The series can be taken all together or separately. Space is limited. To reserve, call the CAA office at (850) 622-5970 or CulturalArts@embarqmail.com.
About Susan Lucas
Susan Lucas is a professional, award-winning artist whose acrylic landscape paintings are in homes, galleries and corporate collections throughout the country. She is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Before returning to Florida?s Emerald Coast in 1999, Lucas enjoyed twenty years of frequent moves and exotic travels as an Air Force wife, and then lived for a decade in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. She studied art at Virginia Intermont College, East Tennessee State, and from numerous inspiring individuals. Lucas continues to study at master classes at the Springmaid Watermedia Workshops. Besides creating art, Lucas teaches, jurors and judges shows, and acts as an advocate for the arts in the community. In 2004, Lucas was chosen as the Beaches of South Walton Artist of the Year. Locally, her work can be seen at Page O?Connor Fine Art Gallery in Destin, or by appointment at her studio in Santa Rosa Beach.
