I love this forum, for this very reason! I have often thought it would be great to have some kind of local photography group. Business owners, friends, collegues coming together to...to just know one another and help each other in this industry. I have met many photographers here & some of them have been really, really great (Sheila) but over all am surprised at the "attitude" of many, many others. I don't get that. There is enough business to go around, really enough. I guess I still wish it was like art school days. Artists coming together exchanging ideas and helping each other create. I love the PPA, get a lot of that there...but usually that involves travel to convention and what not, not really the day to day stuff. Random thoughts...sorry for the rant.

I completely agree with you isacksphoto - it would be naive to think that we, as photographers, have nothing else to learn. Meeting with other photographers can only benefit us. I also think that helping other photographers can only improve the quality of your own work.

Let's have a coffee club!

I am more than pleased to meet other photographers in the sowal area. I have been working here since the late 80s, under the Avalon name since 93. I have certainly seen some interesting stuff in the past 20 years! I find most of the local professionals to be quite supportive, as I hope I am. Always more to learn.... In fact, I have recently spoken to the rep for Seaside homeowners. In a nutshell, stay off of the pavillions and beach in general. No likenesses of Seaside (or at Seaside) are allowed without written permission. It is private property, and so that's the rule. Sad but true. I guess the popularity of the site lead to an overwhelming number of "shooters". Guests are allowed to take personal photos, not for any other use.

Would a pt'er be welcome?
I don't shoot full time and usually only by request, but I've been at it on and off for about 7 years , mostly weddings and a little commercial stuff while working for an agency. It's really helpful for me to stay in the loop, especially when it comes to all the new rules like Seaside's. One of these days I'll have the time and money to actually do what I really want to do...

btw, are there any special rules in Rosemary? I've got a couple staying out there who wants me to come and do a session for them next week.

I have a friend who does NILMDS in the FWB area. I don't think she's had many calls though. I've always been interested in doing it. But studio stuff has never been my best arena, just haven't had time to really develop those skills to what I find appropriate. NILMDTS is very draining work and I really think you have to be cut out for it as an individual. I've got the emotional aspects under control, but the photos are just so important that I just don't think my studio skills are worthy.
