About the Fallen Soldier Monument
In January 2010 The Town Planters Society of Freeport was approached on behalf of long time resident Trudy Boudreaux to create a public tribute to the men and women of the armed forces. Boudreaux's husband Bob had longed to see this for years prior to his death. Bob was a member of the first Blue Angel flight team. Club member Tim Ard was so moved by the letter that he volunteered to head the project. Tim drafted the assistance of Russ Barley, Kasey Cuchens, Eleanor Turnr, Trudy Boudreaux. Nancy Brown and Sandra Pugh who together make up the Freeport Veterans Committee Board. And so began the task of raising funds to make the dream a reality.

We had tremendous support from individuals, businesses, organizations and churches and held numerous fundraisers. On Veterans Day 2010 in front of a crowd of approximately 500 the monument was unveiled and dedicated to the honor of those who serve. During the second year the committee added a sponsor walk and 5 branch of service flag poles that fly the branch flags.

This year we are in a drive to add a beautiful monument called the "Fallen Soldier" monument. This work of art is being sculpted by bronze artist Richard Rist of Baltimore Maryland. It will pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the fight for freedom. We are ahead of schedule at the moment, but still need much help to complete the project and have it ready to unveil on Veterans Day in November. Anyone needing information or that would like to make a donation can contact Tim Ard, project chair at 585-3304.
