Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's getting ever so closer to our nation's Independence Day, which means only one thing, the "South Walton 4th of July Parade" is just around the corner. The Merchants of Seaside are again sponsoring this wonderful community celebration and invite everyone to participate.

The parade will begin from the Seagrove Plaza at 8:00AM on Saturday, July 4th, head west on Scenic Highway 30A and end in Seaside for the awards presentation. Live music will be provided by 30A Radio throughout the morning and Seaside will offer face painting and balloon sculptors that morning as well.

If you, your friends, your family or your business are interested in registering for this year's parade, please fill out the attached application and submit to Seaside no later than June 24th. We are looking for wild, wacky and fun entries that represent what makes South Walton and the 30A community so unique.

We hope to see you all participating and, if for some reason you are unable to be in the parade, make sure to sit along the route and support those who take the time to make this such a wonderful community event!

I have no idea, myself, but I would hope that some of it goes to the WCSO to cover the expense of added security and law enforcement, some to the county for whatever expense that they incur for in preparing, and then there are the fees and permits needed.

They do not charge a fee for the parade in DeFuniak Springs though.

What is the registration fee used for?

I have often wondered that myself. Since it is "sponsored" by the merchants why the need for such a high ($150.) registration fee.

It's just for businesses. It makes sense that if one group of businesses is sponsoring the parade, other business that want to participate should also pay the fee.

Yes, Rapunzel & WRobert, you are both correct with the fact that the registration fee is only for businesses who participate in the event and "hand out" materials promoting their services. Those fees are used to help offset expenses including the WCSO deputies that provide security and traffic control along Scenic Highway 30A during the parade on July 4th.

Thank you all again for your interest! We hope to see many of you out in support of this fantastic community event!
