Ever dream of being a rock star? Live your dream on Friday April 9 in Seaside as The Merchants of Seaside and the Seaside Repertory Theatre present Seaside ROCKS! Amateurs and experts alike will have the chance to show off their skill and originality as they compete to win a $250 cash grand prize!
Preliminary auditions will be held in the Seaside Meeting Hall Theatre (behind Modica Market) from 10AM until 4PM. There is a $10 registration fee to enter, and players under 18 must have a signed parental consent form (consent forms are provided at the preliminary auditions.) The final rounds of the tournament will be open to the public in the Seaside Amphitheater at 7:00 PM, and will conclude with an audience vote to decide the winner. Guitar Hero is a popular video game in which players use a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of music, represented on-screen by colored notes that correspond to buttons on the controller. The Guitar Hero franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, having sold 30 million units across multiple gaming systems.
Seaside?s Guitar Hero tournament is different from most that are held in electronic stores and arcades around the world, in that the judging will not be based solely on points accumulated within the game, but equal weight will be given to originality and stage presence. Contestants will sign up for a slot in the preliminary round, in which they will play two songs for a panel of judges. The top scorers will advance to the second round in which they will perform for the amphitheatre audience and a panel of "celebrity" judges. All performances in the amphitheatre will be simulcast onto the Rep's 35ft movie screen. The panel and the audience will select the final round participants, who will battle for the championship and the grand prize, based on audience vote. Please see complete tournament rules below.

The Seaside Repertory Theatre supports the ESRB industry rating system for video games and the voluntary enforcement of this rating system. Guitar Hero V which has an ESRB rating of "Teen" which is suitable for ages 13 and above. Tournament rules also require any minors under the age of 18 must have a signed parental consent form (provided at preliminary audition) to participate in the tournament. This event is open to all players regardless of sex, race, or nationality.
Tournament Rules and Guidelines
1. Guitar Hero controllers will be available for use at tournament. Participants are welcome to bring their own guitar controller. Controllers are subject to prior approval by event organizers before they are used in competition.
2. Preliminary Rounds: Contestants will be given a list of song options and will perform two before the panel of jugdes.
3. Contestants will be free to choose the level of difficulty on the game.
4. Judges will be giving three 1-10 scores on the basis of:
ACCURACY/POINTS: A formula will combine the level of difficulty, accuracy, & points scored.
ORIGINALITY: Contestants can score points based on stage presence and the ability to work a crowd.
STYLE: Contestants can score points based on looking the part of a rock star (costume, wig, customized guitar controller) and by performing a unique and well-planned set.
5. The Seaside Repertory Theatre reserves the right to disqualify any participant from the tournament due to any unsportsmanlike conduct.
