Hello Everyone,

It's hard to believe, but we've finally made it to the two week countdown for our family trip to Seacreast!!

My mother, who is in her 70's and has arthritis in both knees, has agreed to join us. I'm wanting to make her visit as easy and restful as possible. Does anyone know a place where we may be able to rent something like a 'scooter chair' to help her get around? How about renting a golf cart? Does anyone know if they either legal or welcome in this community?

Thanks for any help you can offer,
Anne

If you are staying in Seacrest Beach they have a tram that will gladly take you where ever you need to go.

If you are staying in "old" Seacrest then you would want to contact Crib Connection for a beach wheel chair. Not sure about motorized wheel chairs, maybe one of the local churches could help you out. The ones I would call would be St. Rita's, Good News, Pt. Washington Methodist, and (shiver) Christian International. All but the latter would help you without trying to get you to drink the kool-aid.

The tram in Seacrest Beach is fabulous! They are very accomodating. If you still need to rent something, call one of the pharmacies, or try Sacred Heart Hospital in Destin....they may be able to recommend a place.

My 93 year old Grandmother will be with us when we come to Seacrest in Sept. I found a company that rents what they call electric cars. ( Golf cart with lights). The company is Dixie Electric Cars 850-269-0011. After reading several posts I got the feeling that not many people on this forum like the golf carts. But when you have someone in your group that is not able to walk more than 1-2 blocks they are nice to have. I will get one for my grandmother when we come for vacation. When we are at home she still drives her car, but she does not feel comfortable driving in a strange city.

Those are fine and are street legal. I don't think anyone has a problem with those as long as it's driven by a liscensed driver not a 12 year-old. The biggest issue with the golf carts is that people drive them on the bike path. :yikes: Crossing 30A on a golf cart isn't the best idea either. The issue is that they just aren't conducive to this area. They are better for places like SanDestin. I have no problem with the Dixie Carts as they go pretty fast, hold on, and if you keep it off the bike path you shouldn't have any problems.
