on a lake in the woods
My family is comming down over Thanksgiving. One member of the party lives in Nashville. He recently went out to look at a home. The home's previous owners had left a Rat Terrier abandoned, locked in the home. No way to know how long the dog had been there but he was weak and fearful of other dogs. The dog has recovered physically but remains fearful at times. My friend wants to bring him down with him and board the dog there so he can see him and play with the dog daily. My friend is working very hard to rehab this dog. I have boarded dogs before at a Kennel near Grayton Beach and loved it but I can't remember the name. Can someone advise me on a animal boarding facility near the Grayton Beach area? Thanks...

I prefer Paw Paws, it is more of a family setting. 267-1439

I know he has good intentions but it would be better for the dog to have a sitter stay at his home and take care of the dog. The stress of being boarded anywhere may be too much for this dog.
Plus the holidays are when kennels are packed.

Many kennels have certain hours that you can come get and return dogs. It is not like he would be able to take the dog to the beach. An after all he is on vacation.

My perfect beach
Jensie, after re-reading your post, I have to agree with 4dogs. The kennel noise may be overwhelming for the little guy. Has your family member looked into a pet-friendly rental? I have a large crate (big enough for my avatar) that I would loan him while he's here. PM me if interested. I'm sure other sowallers have info on pet-friendly rentals.

I've seen the stories of animals abandoned in these homes, and it just makes me furious.

We have two rat terriers and this breaks my heart. Leaving behind ANY dog breaks my heart, I just can not imagine. The kennel mentioned is a nice one but very loud from other animals. My puppychildren freaked and they have no emotional problems...hopefully you can find a pet friendly home to rent. Keep us posted.
