Aside from the traffic irritation, safety concerns and other nuisances these scooters cause, now there is even a better reason to ban them and keep them from growing in our area.

The owners of a Panama City Beach scooter rental business with five locations, have been fined more than $100,000 for "charging consumers for damage that didn't occur."

The fine comes as part of a 29 page settlement that was reached May 9th but only released Wednesday.

As part of the settlement, certain customers may also be due a partial refund.

"We haven't been ripping off customers. We actually settled with the AG's (Attorney General's) office because we did not want to fight," said Colleen Swab, the California Cycles owner.

"We settled with the AG's (Attorney General's) office because it was the economic smart thing to do. We didn't do anything wrong and they know that," continued Swab.

Are you suggesting banning Scooters? I could understand introducing legislation that requires more stringent controls on who can rent them to prevent accidents or traffic violations. But attempting to ban a form of transportation is not my idea of freedom.

'Show off' seriously injured when Harley hits moped on U.S. 98

FHP reported that witnesses said when Chill approached a group of mopeds traveling the same direction that he began to “show off” by weaving his motorcycle from the outside lane to the inside lane between the mopeds. At one point, the Harley’s front wheel collided with the rear wheel of a moped being operated by 21-year-old Khilyd Turner of Alapaha, Ga.

I witnessed a touron on a moped wipe out in front of the wife and I a few weeks ago. This fool and all his buddies were riding them..... get this .... on the side walk along Hwy 98. One touron was trying to jump the curbs and made a wrong decision. Down he went and his rented moped slid out in front of us on HWY 98.
If Walton county allows these to be on our roads then they need to be restricted to certain areas. This incident was in Miramar beach in front of Silver Sands. I`m not sure if these are already restricted to Old 98 and these fools decided to break the rules. Either way, this touron got what he deserved. Hope he had to pay a hefty fine when he brought to moped back.
