Former U. S. Coast Guard Commander and award-winning author, Martha LaGuardia-Kotite will be the guest speaker at the May 16 Mattie Kelly Arts Guild Luncheon.
Martha will be introducing her two newest books, "Rules of Engagement" and "My Name Is Old Glory – The Story of the Star Spangled."
A New Orleans native and long-time resident of Destin, Martha’s first book, "So Others May Live: Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers Savings Lives, Defying Death" was selected for the Commandant of the Coast Guard’s professional reading list, won best adventure award for Boating Writers International and Book of the Year by the Foundation for Coast Guard History.
Martha’s book featured some of the rescue swimmers who had a starring role in The "Guardian," a feature film with Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner. Martha’s credentials include editing feature film scripts featuring the Coast Guard and television documentaries including Dateline NBC and Discovery Channel. She recently served as former Press Secretary for Commandant Admiral Thad Allen during the Haiti earthquake and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
