We'd love to do a full tear off of the lawn, but that's not going to happen for another two years when the car is paid off. In the mean time, we're having problems getting irrigation companies to answer the phone for a pretty straightforward small job.

1) Replace mostly dead irrigation pump (current well seems to be deep enough)
1a) possibly remove retaining tank that seems to serve no purpose other than to generate an 80 decibel whine that annoys everyone in a one block radius of it
2) replace sprinkler system timer box
3) repair/replace a cracked segment of above ground water pipe

Must have appropriate liability insurance and be able to legally perform such jobs in Okaloosa County.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Honestly (and I'm not trying to be a smartarse for once) I would look into doing #2 and 3 yourself. They're really, really simple repairs. Replacing the pump is also pretty easy, but I don't know anything about the retaining tank.

Do you have a good supply store somewhere around? If you do, you can go in and they will sell you the parts & tell you how to do the work.

Best of luck to you.

We're having that done to ours right now. We live in Sea Dunes (Dune Allen) and Josh Hunter of Hunter Landscaping is the person we always use and I would definitely call him to come out and give you a quote.
His number is 850/642-3718
Good luck!

That little tank that hangs of the back of your pump is not a retaining tank, it houses a bladder that keeps the pressure up between on cycles of the pump. All you do is buy one at a hardware store and screw it on. They come properly inflated already. I would bet it's your pump that's squeeling and is burned out. It shouldn't take someone more than an hour to change both of them out and prime your new pump if you buy the parts yourself. It sounds like you only have 2-3 hours of work for someone who knows what they're doing...don't let anyone tell you it will cost more than $200 for labor. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. We have truly inherited frankenstein's sprinkler system as assembled by a bunch of drunk people. The mister has gotten pretty good at patching the system up over the years, and this is the stuff he'd just rather have a professional handle. (Pipe in question is effectively a main that handles a couple different faucets in addition to the entire sprinkler system, so he just doesn't want to have to worry about it holding under higher pressure, even though the patch from the time he cut through a smaller pipe while trying to take out a dead palm tree has held up well for a couple years)
