Hey:

I am still going through IV treatments with a PICC line related to my accident in May and because of it, we haven't been able to go down to SoWal since Jan. We (desperately) want to spend several weeks at SoWal over Thanksgiving and my PICC line needs a dressing change every 7-10 days.

My doc is going to supply me with enough IV antibiotics to get me through, but I am going to need someone (typically a nurse) to change the dressing.

If anyone has any ideas how I would go about finding someone to change it I would love to hear them? I can bring the supplies with me.

Thanks,

John

I'll bet Dr. Skunky could help you out with that.

Barring that you might want to call Sacred Heart to see if they do any kind of out patient services. If not I'd try one of the local concierge services and really give them a test.

FBB, I am so sorry. I had not heard about this.

Big D was on IV antibiotics with a PICC for 6 hours a day from his surgery in December through mid-February. We had planned to spend January (when I'm not working) in SoWal but couldn't because he had to have "home health" (associated with the local hospital) come in once a week to change his dressing and twice a week to check his bloodwork. We had to be here to accept shipments of meds from Atlanta, and then if there was a change in his bloodwork results, we'd have to wait for an overnight delivery of changed meds.

But a few weeks would be manageable if you have the meds. I'd ask Skunky. I'll bet there's some home health service associated with Sacred Heart (or even an independent one) that will come to your home at the beach and provide those services.

So sorry you've had to go through this. We usually spend a lot of time in the off-season at the beach, but couldn't go from mid-November through late February. It must be tough to be away since January when you're accustomed to being there more often. :sosad:

Take care!

Its been like the never-ending story. I am in my second relapse, with 2 I&D surgeries and 2 PICC lines to show for it So far each time I think I am done 10-15 happier days pass and then the damn thing comes back.

We thought we'd be down in late August. Then we thought maybe Labor Day. The we thought, well October for sure.

This has been a major ordeal not only for me, but for GTTBM in here role as care-giver.

We are soooo ready to be down there for a bit.

No problemo sir, your PICC will not stand in your way.

The easiest thing to do is have your doctor write out your IV orders and fax them to Sacred Heart's outpatient IV unit in the hospital. They will administer your meds with a smile and maintain your hardware, do peaks and troughs, etc. There is also a PICC team on site if the worst case scenario occured and the line needed to be changed.

The phone number is 850-278-3172. Your doc can call and arrange for this, or I know someone who can write orders for you as long as he knows your regimen.

Any problems, let me know.

That's great news! So glad they can get to the beach with no worries... They so deserve a break.
