Tangent - it is typical for divorce lawyers to want to be paid for an initial consultation? A friend is looking for a lawyer, but can't afford to shell out $150 just to meet someone and see if she wants to hire them.

Both of us are used to initial client meetings being free (just a part of getting new business) but any services performed or subsequent meetings being paid services. :dunno:

That is who my wife is using. Thanks anyway.

wow, sorry about that, maybe you can use my ex-wife's attorney, he seems to have a penchant for giving free legal advice and harrassing me.

i'm no expert and I hope I never see another attorney in court or their offices, but I do think it's customary for a lawyer to allow an initial free consultation, I think mine was even limited to 30 minutes (after that the clock starts ticking :)

I think that's more than reasonable - she said lawyers were wanting payment up front just for an initial meeting, which pinged my radar.
