I need a good, reasonable vet for my schnauzer. It looks like he ate something he wasn't supposed to AGAIN. Last time it was a pair of underwear. Victoria's Secret still owes me $1000 for that one.

My doggie did the same thing. I use Dr. Barr in Freeport. He is so caring and empathetic and he will work with you on money. Anyone who will treat and board my duck is a hero to me!

Dr. Barry in Sandestin at Barry's Vet is awesome. My dog was just there this week for eating something he shouldn't have also. I have been using him for about 5 years now. Their number is 837-7072 and they do walk-ins.

I cannot possibly heap enough praise upon Dr. Vicki Fountain at Gulf Winds in PCB (at the intersection of 98 & 79, not too far). She is so caring and good. She is also the least expensive vet in the area by half.

After paying $450 to treat my pug's corneal abrasion at another vet, I expected to pay a small fortune when my dachshund Ellie went into liver failure. I fully expected her to die, but called Dr. Fountain's office in desperation (it was Saturday and she was open) for the peace of knowing I'd done everything I could. Dr. Fountain took her in, desperately ill, as a new patient. She kept her in the hospital, looked in on her every four hours, and called with updates. She was well enough to come home three days later. The fee was $325.

Dr. Fountain would be a bargain at twice the price. She's wonderful.

I second that! When my cat got stung in the eye by some unknown bug, he asked me to leave her there for the day to be observed.

When I got back, I found he had been carrying her around in his arms, so she wouldn't be scared!

And the prices they charge are REAL, not some sort of bad dream. You see all sorts of folks bringing their pets in there - you see pedigreed poodles waiting next to pit bulls.

I have also used Dr. Barr in Freeport and can say that he is great. And the prices arent bad. When the dog down the street came up on my porch, limping and bleeding from places that he shouldnt be on a Saturday, he was the only place close that I could find open. After having to spend a weekend there and x-rays, shots, boarding, IV antibiotics etc. he told me that he was most likely hit by a car and had a separated pelvis, bruised/possibly torn urinary tract/or bladder and charged me $300. Needless to say the "dog down the street" has been "my Dog" since and other than running kinda funny sometimes and some arthritis issues when its cold he hasnt had any problems.

We have used Barry Veterinary since Rick Barry opened 20+ years ago, and currently our big dog sees Dr. Barry, our cats see Dr. Swift, and the small dogs see whoever is available. They have also been with my family during the losses of our "original" pets, and I cannot begin to say how wonderful they and the staff were during very difficult times.

That being said, I have heard VERY excellent things about Dr. Barr in Freeport. He and his staff nursed my friend's dachshund back to health after the loss of use of her hind legs (a vet in DFS had told her there was nothing he could do and recommended the vet school at Auburn, if she wanted to donate the dog to research). He also saved her whole brood from snakebite last summer - one of them on two separate occasions.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. We wound up at Dr. Barry's and they took very good care of Ozzy. I don't think it was lingerie but he definitely got into something bad for him. He is feeling much better today and we have a new local vet. Now I need a good, inexpensive groomer who knows how to give a schnauzer cut. People keep cutting his eyebrows in the wrong direction and it makes him look sinister!
