A proposal that would restrict drivers from cruising in highway left lanes sped through a House panel on Thursday. With little comment, the House Transportation & Modals Subcommittee unanimously approved a bill (HB 317) that would apply to drivers on highways with at least two lanes in the same direction and speed limits of 65 mph or higher.

There are long stretches of I10 where the right lane is rougher then the left lane.

Not any more, it's been paved and a Trooper will roll his eyes as he writes the ticket.
I drive it every month - there are long rough patches in a few areas. Nothing crazy but enough to make me want to stay in the left lane but I'm doing 80 and I move over when traffic comes behind but a lot of times people pass me dooing 100 in right lane..

What is a cop going to do? Follow you to see if you don't move right? I think they have enough to worry about with people doing 90+ mph and accidents, abandoned vehicles, etc.

Laws about left lane driving - is this what we've become?

The safest speed on the highway is the flow of traffic. If everybody is going 55 then 55 is the safest, If everybody is going 188 the 188 is the safest. Imagine driving 80 at Talladega. lol

It already applies to interstates. When I encounter a left lane hog I just dial *FHP and note the mile marker. They advise to continue following at a safe distance, do not pass on the right( illegal) and be prepared to allow the trooper room to get in between. Maybe 10 minutes is the longest I've ever waited. They get between us and initiate a traffic stop, I then continue on my way.

You yield to faster traffic which is correct. The issue is the "go around" folks that force faster drivers to attempt to pass on the right which is far more dangerous.
