I'm wwanting some good advice on local, trustworthy mechanics in the area. I've had a check engine light on for some time and started having problems at start-up, where the engine would stutter and fade away. It would happen on occasion, but wasn't a real problem.

I cleaned my Mass Air Flow sensor myself, didn't have the problem again for a few weeks, but apparently that was just a coincidence (Although cleaning the sensor helped significantly with mileage)

The code came back something like, Bank 1 and 2 too lean. It may be an O2 sensor. I didin't notice a crack in my vaccum tube. Anyway, I am no mechanic and know they are not all created equal and some may take a little too much off the top. So I'm hoping I can find an affordable machanic to do the job. My kids are coming soon and I need to know my truck is reliable. As of now, I'm not able to start it and get out to shoot another video.

And if anyone out there is a shadetree mechanic and wants to help out, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Matt @ Beach Technical will advise or work on it. 267-2067

Thanks. I actually was able to keep it started by revving the RPM's above 2000. Letting go of the accelerator then allowed it to proceed to idle where it remained. Thankfully I was able to do this because once I got out of the house, I came in contact with an Eastern Diamonback, which I shot some video of.

Thanks for the recommendation. I anticipate giving him a call tomorrow.

This has been one of the most frustrating occurrences I've ever had with a business establishment. I wish I could have used Scotty's Auto repair, as there were several great recommendations and they were so polite and courteous on the phone. I called last week but unfortunately they could not take me until this Thursday. My kids have arrived today.

But another place told me I could either leave my vehicle there last week for them to get to it when they could or just take it in Monday to be dealt with that day. This particular establishment was rude on the phone, but rather than judge too harshly on first impressions, I chalked it up to them having a bad day. Big mistake!

Monday at 8:30 I brought my truck in. I explained the issue again and was told it would be looked at while I went away on my bike. The issue with my truck was that it would have a problem starting in the morning, but once it started, would not have any problems starting subsequently all day.

After not getting a call after 3 hours I peddled back to the shop and was told no determination was yet made on the problem. ---- said that he would let the truck sit and get cold and see if the issues with it starting would occur again. I explained that if that was what he was waiting on, it would not happen all day. I again explained that it would start every time until the morning. ---- said he would go ahead and take a look at it after lunch and get back with me.

At 2:30 I called and spoke with ------. She said ---- was out and no determination as to the problem was made and said to call back shortly for an update. All this time, from 8:30 in the morning, I was in the heat, expecting some progress.

At 3:30 I called and ------ said that ---- suspected the Fuel Pump might be the culprit. I explained to ------, not sure if she knew, that I was on my bike and in the heat and had been all day. I asked if ---- would be able to get to the truck today, that if not, I could start peddling from 393 to Seagrove. She said he might still get to it and I asked that they call to let me know as soon as possible.

At 4:30 I get a call from ------ who tells me that the truck has started ---- every time he tried, suggesting that there was no problem. I again stated that it starts for me every time too, after the first time in the morning. She went on to say that he can not make a diagnosis unless the problem occurs when he tries.

I was startled. I reiterated that it will not have a problem until the morning and that if that was the case, I could have peddled my bike to Seagrove at 8:45 rather than sit in the sun all day. ------ then became rather rude, asking if I wanted to pick the truck up right then.

I explained that it would do no good, because if I brought the truck in the following day, it would again start every time for ---- and we would be in the same boat. It was as if she could not comprehend the simple concept I was presenting to her. She continued to be rude to me and put ---- on the phone. I apologized for upsetting ------ and ---- explained what she had, that he needed the problem to occur while he was present to make a diagnosis. Wow! And exactly why did I wait around all day when it was explained several times that the truck would start for him ‘all day’.

With sun burned skin I biked back to Seagrove. I wondered if I should bring them a bill when I went to pick up my truck.

This has been horrible. I know it is difficult owning your own buisiness and dealing with the public. But dealing with ------ and ---- was no fun either.

The next day I called in the morning like ---- said to and was told by ------ that hew as working on it at that time and would call as soon as it did or did not start.

At noon, after my kids had already arrived, I called my ex wife, explained to her my nightmare and asked if she would call the shop for me due to the problems I seemed to be having.

My ex called me back explaining that ---- said the probelm was in fact the fuel pump but he would have to order the part and that I could come pick up the truck in 30 minutes, as they were out of the shop.

Why I was not called in the morning I don't know. And how much longer I would have had to wait to get a call saying to come pick up the truck, I do not know. I am about to ride over to pick it up, but this is one of the worst experiences with cutomer service I have ever experienced. Shame on these people for even operating a busienss. There must be a lot of excess work for them to be able to get by so well, because there were no shortage of vehicles at their shop.

Sorry for all your hassles. I think I know the shop you speak of and I personally have never had any problems with them. Hopefully as of today, you have wheels to go with the beautiful weather out there.

Just wanted to let anyone know who has trouble with their vehicle, Scotty's is definately the way to go. I had nothing but great service, communication and know how from them. It was a pleasure dealing with them. Thanks to everyone who recommended Scotty's. It seems to be a consensus and I certainly was impressed.

I have said it more than once, from past similar experiences with other auto repairs services, Scotty's is the best in South Walton, period! I have been using them for the last 5 years and refer everyone that needs auto repair to them.

Also, remember if you need a tow at a reasonable price call S.W.A.T (South Walton Auto Towing) 850-267-3185 or 850-419-3937.
