"TYME FOR LYME"!! MAY IS LYME DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH!!

Many of you are aware of the direct toll Lyme Disease has taken on our family. Together, we have decided to try and turn a painful time in our lives, into something that will benefit others. Our family is very excited to start, what we hope, will become something widespread and successful in helping Lyme Disease victims.

Many of you remember, Megan Guthrie, who suffered with Lyme Disease for over 13 years. She is a beautiful daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend to many. She was stricken with Lyme, as an adolescent. And, unless you witnessed her deteriorating health and life, you can't possibly imagine the drastic life-changing symptoms associated with this disease and the toll it takes on a person and the families involved. Last year we held a Benefit to help her seek Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment. It seemed to be a last ditch effort for healing. As a result of that treatment, today, Megan is thriving and able to function as a normal young adult. She has a restored quality of life!

Due to her experience, we will continue to spread awareness and help victims of this horrific disease. We are creating a Foundation for Lyme Disease patients, who are seeking treatment, but cannot afford the expense. Lyme Disease is not covered by insurance companies. Therefore, it is 100% patient responsibility to pay for treatment.

We hope you will come join us for a day filled with fun, music, ballgames, food and sharing, as we spread awareness in our community and across the Southeast, about Lyme Disease.

On Friday, May 28th, we will start our weekend by having a cookout at the corner of Hwy 79 and Hwy 90. We will be selling boston butts and racks of ribs. This was a great success, last year, and they were delicious! Greg Caruso will be cooking for us, again. We will have the same recipe as last year. So, come get the meat for your Memorial weekend get togethers!

On May 29th, at Holmes County High School, we will kick off the day's events at 10:00 a.m. We will have opening ceremonies and prayer, then the festivities will begin! We are requesting a $5.00 donation, at the door, but it is NOT required. You will be given an armband for the day, and may enter and leave as you wish. Inflatables and concerts will be free, with armband.

We will, also, be showing the multi award winning Lyme Disease documentary "Under our skin", in the auditorium. This will be at 11:00, 2:00 and 4:00.

We will have Lyme Disease victims bearing their testimonies onstage and in the auditorium. A Lyme Disease Specialist, LLMD, will be onhand to speak and to answer questions you may have. Lyme Support Groups, from across the Panhandle, will be present to lend a helping hand.

Other events:

Bands including: Grace Bailey 10:30; Rooftop Legends 11:30; Glorious Disaster 1:00; Citizens on Fire 3:00; Raining Ami 4:00 (and, more to be filled into vacant time slots)

PLEASE, make plans to be a part of this important event! Lyme Disease is the fastest spreading infectious disease in the WORLD! Come find out more about it. Because, it's "Tyme for Lyme" to be recognized and treated as the life threatening disease that it truly is! If you, or if you know of someone who, is suffering with Lyme Disease, please become a part of this day!

Excellent! :clap:Everyone has been painting May Green for Lyme Awareness.

I would urge everyone to try and see the film and learn about Lyme Disease and Prevention. You will be shocked about the politics surrounding this Disease and how much more difficult it makes it for persons with Lyme, who were not correctly diagnosed, to get the treatment necessary. The average Lyme patient sees about 15 doctors and spends approximately $70,000 for treatments and supplements. If not caught early, Lyme disease can become chronic. Deer ticks also carry other diseases besides Lyme disease which can make treatment extremely difficult.

A Lyme Literate Doctor is few and far between and some are being brought up on charges and hearings if they exceed IDSA guidelines for treatment. Recently, Congressman Richard Blumenthal of CT found numerous conflicts of interests within the IDSA Board of Governors and a suit was brought about. Lyme patients did not win this round, but will not stop pushing to allow doctors to continue long term antibiotic therapy if needed, which has helped many people and saved their lives, including mine.

PREVENTION IS KEY! Learn how to protect you and your family against this insidious disease, which can mimic so many other diseases making diagnosis difficult. Less than 50% of those who contract Lyme disease do not get a bulls eye rash.

If you can not make the event, the film, "Under Our Skin", can be rented on Netflix. It's very well done and eye opening.

This is the fastest spreading disease in this Country; not to mention the fact that there are many cases that do not get recorded, hence the figures are estimated at at least 10X what is reported.
