Alys Beach, Florida - (March 24, 2009) - Last year, Sally Mankus of Shalimar won $500 for her collection of digital images entitled "Feet First," while Janis Sawyer of Seaside won $1,000 for her unique video art entitled "SpyCam Series #2."
On Saturday, June 6th, local digital artists will again compete with artists from around the globe for $6,000 in cash prizes during the second annual "Digital Graffiti" festival in Alys Beach. The festival will be hosted by style icon India Hicks, an internationally-known author, TV host and fashion model for Ralph Lauren, Gap, and J. Crew. Artist entries will be judged by a panel of design, interactive and film experts.
"Last year, we received submissions from as far away as Israel, Austria, London, India, Germany, France, Italy and China," said Kelli Arnold, Alys Beach's Events Coordinator. "This is a wonderful opportunity for local digital artists to compete and shine on a world stage."
This year's cash prizes include awards for "Best of Show" ($2,000), "Best Environmental Theme" ($1,000), "Most Experimental Submission" ($1,000), "Best Local Submission" ($1,000) and "Audience Favorite" ($1,000). To qualify for the Best Local Artist award, sponsored by www.30A.com, the winner must reside full-time in Walton, Okaloosa, Bay or Washington County.
Digital Graffiti is the world's first outdoor projection art festival, with artists using the latest technologies to showcase their original works onto the town's iconic white walls. The event explores how design, technology and architecture can intertwine to create entirely new art forms.
