What you will do: You will be bagging oyster shell onsite at a living shoreline project on Choctawhatchee Bay.

Why: Living Shorelines are shoreline management options that provide erosion control benefits, while also enhancing the natural shoreline habitat. Living Shorelines allow for natural coastal processes to remain through the strategic placement of plants, oyster shell, sand fill and other structural and organic materials. This project represents the collaborative efforts of private homeowners, DEP, CBA and the USFWS Coastal Program to promote, where appropriate, the Living Shoreline alternative to hardened bulkheads or seawalls that often degrade our critical bay habitats, resulting in losses of the intertidal zone, shoreline vegetation and seagrasses, as well as the fish, crab, shrimp which depend on these habitats for survival.
