So does anyone on 30A have Knology yet? Apparently they are starting to offer service from the East end of 30A to Watersound.

Why does Mediacom, my cable company for the past five years, suck? I've come to the conclusion that they're evil. Or maybe they're not evil. Maybe they just insist on hiring the most condescending and rude customer service operators they can find because they have a sick sense of humor. Maybe it's some kind psychosis that's convinced Mediacom's upper management that their steady increase in price with no improvement in service has been good for business. Whatever the reason, I've had enough.
Completely fed up with the idea of handing over so much of my hard earned moola to a company that constantly disappoints me, I finally made the call today to cancel my television service. After waiting on hold for over an hour, the operator asked me why I wanted to cancel. I told her that I'd been disgruntled for some time over the apparent bait-and-switch carried out when my HBO subscription was moved to a much more expensive digital service and my bill had remained the same. They announced this new policy a couple of years back, but had just gotten around to following through with it. In the most snide and sarcastic way possible, the operator mused while typing, "So, you're canceling your cable because of the loss of ONE channel?"
I was already mad at that point for having been on hold for so long and played the same crappy advertisements on a five minute loop, ("Blockbusters like Are We There Yet starring Ice Cube"? Who the hell are they kidding?) but when she said that, my blood began to boil.
I guess I can appreciate what Mediacom operators must go through at work. Talking to people all day as dissatisfied as I, couldn't be good for you. However, I was so pissed by her attitude and tone of voice, that I really had to bite my tongue. The only thing I could muster to say at that moment was, "Wow! I guess you could put it that way."
What I wanted to say was, "Yeah, that's right! And you wanna know what else? The customer service at Mediacom is the worst I've ever experienced anywhere, for any thing. For example, I just waited over an hour to get on the line and be told by you, with your snotty attitude, that you're going to charge me twenty-five dollars just to disconnect a service. I know that Mediacom has a monopoly in my area thanks to some ridiculous and antiquated regulations, but for Christ's sake! You'd think they were trying to bleed this community for all it was worth before those regulations changed. **** YOU!"
Of course, I maintained my composure and did not say those things. However, my temperament was such after the phone call that I continued to play out the conversation in my head with great frustration.
The overall experience got me thinking, "Surely I'm not the only one that's had this problem" and "Who the hell do they think they are?". I did some snooping and found that it's not just me. In fact, Mediacom is generally disliked in most all of their franchise locations. Strangely enough, that's with the exception of those areas where Mediacom is not the only cable provider. It would seem that when Mediacom is forced to compete, as they are in Clear Lake, Iowa, they're nicer to their customers and their prices are lower. Shamelessly, Mediacom's prices are higher in Mason City, Iowa, even though it's only nine miles from Clear Lake.
If you click on the image above you can view the results of the 2006 customer satisfaction survey for Mediacom taken by Springfield City Council. While the results clearly don't reflect my opinion, it is obvious that the majority of cable customers share my feelings in some respect.
