Came home from work late afternoon, to 85 degrees inside! Anyone offer any advise as to what might be the problem? I turned AC unit off for a while, but, it still isn't working well. The exchange filter needed to be changed, but, still not working! I notice a small flashing icon that looks like a tiny circle, but, have no idea what it is. BTW, it is a central unit, not a window!lol Help....can't stand idea of being hot, trying to sleep!:bang:

Check your breaker box to see if anything has been tripped. My AC actually died about a month ago and the whole outside unit had to be replaced. Otherwise, I have no idea unfortunately. :sosad: Are you renting or do you own? If renting, call your landlord pronto as I believe no AC constitutes as an emergency during the summer...

Check to see if there is a drain pan under the main hvac unit. There may be a cut off switch when the water gets too high, that happened to me. If this is the case, make sure you'r drain tube isn't blocked and is vented right.

those are good starts. Also, you might check the coils to see if they are clogged, or, if you turned down the a/c too cold, your coils may have frozen. If so, you can turn on the fan only on your a/c controller and let it run for 2-3 hours and it will thaw out the coils. Only after completely thawed, turn your a/c back on.

If the fan is blowing but only slightly, go outside to the unit and see if the big fan is turning when the a/c is switched on. If not, take a long screwdriver and stick down in there to see if you can get it to spin. If it doesn't spin, you may need a new motor. If the spin gets it started back up, you may need to replace the capacitor, which should cost about $50 plus labor.

Do all of the above especially as Murray said turn the fan on, its only going to cool about 20 degrees cooler than outside temps, if you try for lower than that it will freeze up.

Also might be leaking freon, which will require a service call.

Good luck.

In the interim maybe get one of those indoor units. You just put it in your room, no installation (or window) necessary. You have to drain the water once in a while. I'm thinking under $200.00, but could be wrong.

Thx, guys, for suggestions!

It's still out and 90 degrees, inside! Hopefully, it'll be repaired, soon! Coils aren't frozen and I'm not sure about fan, I don't have a long screw driver, or, anyone to help with that.

Things we take, for granted!

I have AC now and am loving it! Terry Schrader, with Terry's AC Heat & Appliance in Santa Rosa Beach 850-267-9956, was wonderful, affordable and prompt! He only charged $65 for the service call and $40 for the AC Capacitator! He even diagnosed and repaired a dryer problem, too! Dryer element was $45, labor was $75 for all and fair! Thank goodness, he had parts on his van, to repair today! Anyone needing appliance repair, call Terry and he'll do you, A GREAT JOB!:clap::clap:Please tell him that Diane referred ya, on SOWAL!
