Previously there was some discussion on swapping out cable for an HD Antenna to get free, HD local stations.

Has anyone tried this and stuck with it?

Has anyone tried putting the antenna in the attic, under a metal roof?

digital tv antenna reception

1st, there is no such thing as an HD antenna....new antennas a better than earlier versions, but an antenna picks up signals over the air and that's it. If you want to know about reception, try this website:

antennaweb.org

You can enter your address and it will tell you what kind of antenna to buy and what stations you should be able to receive. Good luck!

Great site. Thanks!

I'm guessing this is my answer:

Can I put an antenna in my attic?

Generally, antennas do not perform optimally in an attic. Even when an antenna will perform well outdoors, reception of TV signals in an attic can be made very difficult by interference from other electrical devices. The building's construction can also hinder the entrance of the TV signal or cause reflection of the signal, which leads to ghosting. Depending on building construction, you can expect to lose at least 30% of the signal. In a house with aluminum siding, signal loss could be 100%. Outdoor installation is always best.
