Banner, a 22lb green sea turtle is set to be released across from the Carousel Supermarket at 19400 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32413 at 8:30 am on Thursday, October 5th.
Banner was accidentally hooked at the is the Russel-Fields Pier by a fisherman on August 8th. The sea turtle had a hook in its left front flipper and radiographs showed a second hook in its esophagus. Surgery was performed for hook removal and it was successful. Banner was treated with mineral oil and antibiotics. The animal has been medically cleared to be released into the Gulf of Mexico!
Gulf World would like to thank the local piers for their continued support in our efforts in responding to these stranded animals. Gulf World is continuing to work with pier attendants to assist with hooked turtles. The public is invited to attend the event.
