I would like to give a positive "shout out" for Gulf Coast Shutters. I ordered two hurricane shutters for our dormers. Jon Parker called me back promptly and was out to the house shortly thereafter. Two points: HE CALLED ME BACK! THEN, HE ACTUALLY SHOWED UP! Of course, he committed a venial sin...HE ACTUALLY COMMUNICATED WITH ME! What??? He would actually write me back when I asked for a status update. Note: Ordering shutters inside of hurricane season will delay the process!
Shutters came in and were promptly installed. They look great and now I don't have to lug plywood to a second story in hurricane season. 50% down, balance due upon completion of the job.
I found their company to be honest and of high integrity. The fact that I got called back was a positive sign. One other company never bothered. Oh, and my job wasn't a huge job...two shutters for dormers. But I was treated by Jon as if I had ordered the entire house.
Are they expensive...sure, custom made shutters are expensive. Could I have saved money by ordering myself? Probably, but then I have to factor a few items in:
1. I'm handy, only to a point, and "measuring twice and cutting once" is probably not in my DNA.
2. I'm not willing to get up on the roof....been there done that.
3. They look fantastic
So, could I have saved $400 doing it myself? Probably, but then I simply see the higher price as the price you pay for great service, communication and a great looking finished product. And I don't even know how much it could cost to do it myself, just guessing there, the point being that working with a reputable company, that shows up and communicates is worth the money.
I'll be back to them as I add additional shutters to the house.
