Just want to give a spontaneous recommendation for Gulf Coast Electric out of Destin. Thanksgiving day, we finally figured out the problem with a flickering lamp in the living room was actually caused by some arcing at the panel. Called them the next day, and number one- a real person actually answered the phone. Service tech was sent out and at hour house within two hours. He did an excellent job of explaining the problem, reassuring us that our house wasn't in imminent danger of burning down (apparently the breaker was only 'slightly melted') and rearranged and replaced three other breakers that were also showing signs of excess wear and tear.
Total cost for part and labor- $212, which seems reasonable since you're looking at $70-$100 just to have anyone's service tech make it as far as the driveway.
Peace of mind- it would have been easy for the company to tell us that we needed to replace the entire panel or horrible things would happen. Instead, the tech reassured us that after the four breakers he'd replaced, we should be good to go safely for several more years.
When we do replace the panel, they're definitely who we'll go with. Extremely professional company who seems more committed to long term success and doing it right than just making the quick buck from anyone they could.
