Generations: A Collection of Black American Music is coming to Mattie Kelly Performing Arts Center mainstage February 27 and 28.
Generations: A Collection of Black American Music is a stage production that pays homage to some of the most influential African American artists of our past, present, and future. The production starts pre 1900’s, with a soul stirring negro-spiritual, and progresses all the way to the 2000’s, making a stop at each decade along the way. A member of the ten membered cast opens each decade with a monologue, explicating the status, emotion, whereabouts, and accomplishments of Black society during the specific eras. Generations: A Collection of Black American Music tells the beautiful story of the optimistic and triumphant approach to African American success, and the stateliness and sophistication of a nation. Through the interpreted songs of Aretha Franklin, The Jacksons, Earth, Wind and Fire, and many more, the bigger picture is made clearer.
You’ll smile… you’ll cry… you’ll sing out loud… you’ll dance… you’ll reminisce… you’ll shout “AMEN!” for Generations: A Collection of Black American Music.
