Since hubby and I are down here without kids and grandkids this trip, we decided we would try as many new restaurants as we could. This summer with the kids, we enjoyed Flip Flops and Shorty's for new places, the rest were our traditional kid friendly places...Elmo's, Amore, Backporch & Seagrove Village Market. This trip we will revisit Shorty's because it was excellent! But the rest will be first time experiences for us...so far all have been excellent.
We ate at Rendezvous caf? for lunch Saturday. I had the oyster & shrimp po-boy and substituted a small salad for the fries...it was excellent! Loved dining out on the sidewalk watching all the activities of the Seaside Community Yard Sale. Husband had the roast beef sandwich with pasta salad...it was delicious as well! Definitely on our list of returns!
Saturday night we were a bit spent from our trip down, so we decided on carry outs from the Village Market. It was good, and we have eaten there consistently for the past 15 years or so, but we thought $35 was a bit over the top for a grouper plate and a grouper sandwich. Food was fine, but don't think we'll do carryouts from there again.
Sunday morning we had the brunch at the Santa Rosa Beach Club...oh my goodness! Why have we passed by that place sooooo many times in the past. It was heavenly and the view, what can I say...heavenly as well!
We will definitely be returning there!
Sunday afternoon...no lunch! Full of brunch till early evening. Decided to try another favorite the Red Bar. That place is amazing...where do all the people come from? It's a Sunday night, we expected a lower key Red Bar experience...the band was a kick, Hubba Hubba! A little disappointed that we missed Dread Clampit, but the band was fun and the food itself was yummy as usual. I had the grouper special and husband had pork medallions.
So far we're two for four in our trying out new places. We have the whole week ahead of us. Here's my short list of new places to try:
Lake Place
Old Florida Fish House...just love the location.
Pizza Bar
Gravel Road
Bonefish Grill...probably wouldn't have picked this, but kids got us a gift certificate, so we'll give it a try.
We will return to Shorty's...loved it this summer!
Your additions & suggestions are welcome as well!

After you go to lake place please post on your experience :D. I intend to go there but somehow end up going to stinky's instead. I guess you go with what you know . The grilled fish at stinky's is always excellent  no matter what kind of fish. I prefer a little firmer like a Mahi but the grouper and snapper are also wonderful. Maybe i'll get to The Lake Place this weekend while we are there. Enjoy "your" weekend without the Gkids.

Thanks...I will. We hope to hit Stinky's as well. Are they open for lunch?

My sister and I went to Lakeplace last night, intended on going to Stinkys but they had a 30 minute wait. Lakeplace takes reservations, unlike Stinky's, the front room was half full and booked so we were seated in the back room, not the kitchen room. My only gripe is that when this room filled it became very noisy, an older couple seated behind us asked to be reseated in the other room.
Our food was delicious, I had the trout with softshell crab which was a special, my sister had the crab cakes, which were not a typical crab cake in texture, seasoning and shape. Good but an herb was present that was pronounced in the cakes, it may have been cilantro.
I'd go again.
Fortunately we live within walking distance and did not have to deal with the horrendous parking situation. I've almost been hit twice on the bike path in the last month by motorist coming and going into the parking lot.

I don't normally eat at chain restaurants while in SoWal but I was dragged to Bonefish by a friend & since we don't have one here in Pittsburgh I agreed to go. I really liked it & would go back again!

gravel road

the food at the gravel road is fantastic. and live music on mondays and wednesdays. also it's the best deal in town money wise.

I would recommend skipping Old Florida Fish House unless you want sushi. The location is excellent, the food and service is not.

If you go to Stinkys, make sure you try Stinky's Stew! It is the ambrosia of the gods!

Summer Kitchen in Rosemary Beach has great lunch and dinner, and in the slower seasons, weekday lunch specials that change every week. I love the tuna salad salad at lunch; the blackbean and sage rollup is good too, also the spicy chicken rollup.
