A new location for the Jan. 19 meeting of the Emerald Coast Meditation Society will be the Coastal Branch Library, behind the Courthouse Annex on Hwy. 331. Christ the King Episcopal Church, where it usually meets, has need of the parish hall that night.
The ECMS will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the library meeting room. The meeting, open free to the public, will begin with five minutes of silent meditation instead of the usual 30 minutes. And instead of the usual speaker, there will be a panel discussion on “Facing Our Fears in Troubling Times.” Member Tracey Tapp will give an overview of the program.
A three-person panel will talk briefly on noticing your fears, acceptance, and empathy. Then the group will break up into triads, or small groups, to discuss what they are most afraid of, how they experience this fear, and their response to the fear.
When the group comes back together, each triad will report on how noticing, acceptance, and empathy can help us work skillfully with these fears.
The group will do its 30-minute silent meditation from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
