Just a quick note to let you know of a great organ concert coming up this Sunday. Hope you will be able to attend. Mike Edington will be playing. Though blind from birth, he will impress you with his talent and inspire you with his arrangements of your favorite hymns and carols.

Organ Concert

Mike is a wonderful organist who will be performing on their nice 3-manual Allen Pipe/Digital Combination organ. He will be playing a variety of peices including a number of selections from his Christmas CD. Help us spread the word. I have attached a PDF of the poster about the concert.

He will be back in the Spring. Please let me know if you would like to schedule him in your church for a concert. Here is his bio:

Biographical Information

Mike Edington is a graduate of Shenandoah conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia and studied at Philadelphia College of Bible in Langhome, Pennsylvania in the area of organ performance. He has played the organ since the age of 12 and has overcome many obstacles to become the musician he is today. He was born legally blind with a vision disorder called retinitis pigmentosa. His vision continues to deteriorate. He learns new music by listening to musical demonstrations and through improvisation. He also uses a creative means incorporating sequencing notation and recording music note-by-note on a keyboard. By reading enlarged, reversed images on a combination scanner/reader/monitor, he is able to access other printed music. The process is time consuming and tedious, but effective.

As he grew up in Newport News, Virginia, he spent many hours listening to musical recordings and radio broadcasts of numerous great organists from the classical and gospel arenas. In pursuing his passion for church music and his interest in hymnology, he has played and performed on many varied organs both digital and pipe, classic and theatre.

His musical skill is evident in his performances as well as his sensitive interpretation of the song. In concert, he treats the audience to a wide range of music including classical pieces and his own arrangements of hymns and contemporary worship songs.

He has numerous recordings that capture his varied interest in music from traditional to classical to contemporary. Mr. Edington currently serves as organist for Woodstock United Methodist Church in Woodstock, Virginia.

Hope to see you, soon.

Sincerely,

Donny Monk
